EMPLOYMENT & LABOUR MINISTER, THULAS NXESI, OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES MT. AYLIFF LABOUR CENTRE

Today, Minister of Employment and Labour, Mr. Thulas Nxesi, officially launched the Mt. Ayliff Labour Centre in EmaXesibeni. The Centre will service three areas respectively: Matatiele, Ntabankulu and Mount Frere.

Leadership in attendance at the launch included Director-General, Mr. T. Lamati; MEC of Local Economic Development, Mr. M. Mvoko; Alfred Nzo District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sixolile Mehlomakhulu and Umzimvubu Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. S.K. Mnukwa.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Nxesi said the Labour Centre is meant to be a multipurpose centre to serve various needs of the community; the offices must have an impact on the people.

“We need a new culture, a culture of work ethic if we are to serve our people, especially you who interface and interact with the community” said Minister Nxesi.

He also stressed the importance of specialized vocational learning and said that government needs to ensure that TVET colleges are of good standard in order to produce skilled artisans.

He also cited government departments working in silos, lack of continuity and nepotism as some of the challenges hindering service delivery and said there is a need to strengthen coordination between departments and all spheres of government.

Director-General, Mr. T Lamani, called on community members to take ownership of the institution, to protect it and ensure that it serves them. He also appealed to the community to use other means of conveying their grievances and refrain from burning down government institutions meant to serve them.

Representing the office of the Eastern Cape Premier, Honourable MEC M. Mvoko expressed his congratulations and said the Mt. Ayliff Labour Centre will not only serve the EmaXesibeni community alone, but all surrounding communities.

He lamented the fact that there are poor services around Eastern Cape and said the new Labour Centre will ensure that quality services are brought closer to the people much more efficiently. He called upon employees at the Centre to treat people with courtesy.

The launch concluded with the unveiling of a plague by Minister Nxesi.
