GOVERNMENT AT THE CENTRE OF SERVICE DELIVERY 

Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo District Municipality launches the Public Service Month, as it is celebrated annually in September in South Africa. The Launch is aimed at encouraging public servants to deliver quality services to the citizens of South Africa and to promote a culture of batho pele (people first) it is also aimed at raising awareness about the role of the public service and its impact on the lives of citizens as well as opening discussions on challenges that are faced by public servants.

Government servants get to perform assessments by referring to their achievements, failures and where to do corrections for future purposes when serving the public better.

As a form of intervention the Department of Social Development to provides the school with Social Workers to curb the high rate of teenage pregnancy and offer psychological lessons to learners.

The platform also afforded a chance for learners to engage with each other in a form of dialogue regarding the high rate of pregnancy in the school and come up with possible solutions. 

Mihlayonke Nomake a 16 year old grade 10 learner from Zwelitsha Senior Secondary School appreciates for getting an opportunity to be educated about the consequences of teenage pregnancy as thier school is know for the high rate of teenage pregnancy meanwhile Philip Nyamela a resident of Gxwaleni Village was pleased to see governments departments renderimg services in his village , as he used to spend lot of money travelling to town for the services”. 

Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo District Mayor Honourable Councillor Vukile Mhlelembana said “as government we have a responsibility to respond to social ills that occur in our society that is why we are gathered here at Zwelitsha Senior Secondary School. Government departments such as the department of Social Development, South African Police Services (SAPS), and department of Health, Department of Education also got a chance to reflect on the impact and role that they have played in building and delivering better services to the the Alfred Nzo District.” 

“This year marks 30 years of freedom, government departments together with municipalities should be able to provide the public with better and more advanced services.” said Mhlelembana
